Interests and Expertise
I am currently studying Biology at the University of Oxford, completing my final Master’s year under my supervisor Daniel Hending. During this year I will be researching, broadly, the effect of climate change on Chiropteran distributions across Madagascar. This project is particularly interesting given the unique biogeography and the highly endemic nature of many of bat species in the area, therefore, its results should be key for understanding best local conservation practices in the future. To do this I will be collecting data from several public domains and published papers and modelling distributions under current and future climate scenarios.
Background
Over recent years I have specialised in conservation, species responses to climate change, and animal behaviours. During my undergraduate I conducted a field experiment in Borneo’s primary rainforest looking at the response of Lepidopteran activity to edge effects and the influence of microclimate buffering in rainforests. Since, I have continued in the field of conservation however, I am interested in shifting towards larger mammalian responses to climate change, intertwined with their relationships with the human communities across their local ranges. I am hoping that my time with the NbSI team will help me expand both my ideas and opportunities to explore these topics.
