Interests and expertise
I am a fourth-year Biology (MBiol) student at the University of Oxford, conducting my Master’s research under the supervision of Professor Nathalie Seddon. My research explores whether incorporating Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) influences the effectiveness of Nature-based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation (NbS-CCA). I am collaborating with members of the NbSI team, each specialising in different geographical contexts across the Global South including the Tropical Andes, the Philippines, and Small Island Developing States. The project applies a combination of systematic review, qualitative coding and qualitative synthesis.
Background
Throughout the MBiol Biology course, I have developed a strong interest in ecosystem conservation and sustainable development. In my second year, I completed a research skills course on the technological applications of ecological monitoring, focusing on aquatic community ecology. For this project, I assessed the impacts of wastewater and warming on algal blooms based on data from wastewater treatment plants across Somerset. I also completed a collections curation internship at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, during which I attended the 2024 Nature-based Solutions Conference held at the museum. The discussions at this conference sparked my interest in embracing diverse knowledge systems in conservation and directly inspired my current Master’s research. Outside of my studies, I am a member of Oxford Climate Society’s Education Team and help run the School of Climate Change, an 8-week programme focused on sharing the latest insights into the climate crisis.
