NbS Peru to be hosted by the Instituto de Montaña
One of the main focuses of the Instituto de Montaña (Mountain Institute) is enhancing the resilience of communities in the Andes to climate change through use of ecosystem-based adaptation, which is a type of nature-based solution.

Exciting news! We are pleased to announce that the Nature-based Solutions Initiative in Peru (NbsI Peru) will hereafter be hosted by the Instituto de Montaña (IdM), a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of mountains through the affirmation of its cultures and communities since 1995. IdM supports men and women in Andean communities to thrive in healthy environments through the development of sustainable economies, the conservation of ecosystems, and research and innovation, based on their own culture and spirituality.

For millennia, people in the Peruvian Andes, Amazon and coastal Pacific have worked alongside nature based on deep respect and tradition. As a result, Peru’s biocultural heritage acts as a living laboratory for ecosystem-based practices and presents unmatched potential for innovation on nature-based solutions to sustainably support human livelihoods and wellbeing, while effectively securing native biodiversity and key ecological processes.

Going forward, the NbSI Peru and IdM team will conduct joint research, education and policy activities, incorporating a rigorous social-ecological lens throughout. Together, they will support a growing community of practice on nature-based solutions to collate evidence from science, practice and traditional knowledge on the potential of nature-based solutions for climate action and biodiversity conservation in Peru.
