Interests and expertise

Environmental (especially climate change impact and adaptation) and human dimensions of fisheries and aquaculture

I was born in Bangladesh – a significantly fisheries-dependent country where environmental changes especially extreme weather events and climate change have high impact. This encouraged me to study fisheries and environment. I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. on Fisheries from the University of Dhaka; and my PhD at the University of Leeds on Sustainability Research in 2013 focusing on climate change and social vulnerability and adaptation of small-scale fisheries. I was also a post-doctoral research fellow in climate change adaptation at the University of Oxford in 2017, with funding from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. I am now Professor in the Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka and do research in collaboration with national and international institutions on environmental and human dimensions of fisheries and aquaculture.
